During a visit to an IT company, he realised that he is not suitable for a job so he started accompanying his father to the film sets.

His father Sham Kaushal is one of the most popular action directors of Hindi films so Bollywood movies have always been a part of his life since childhood.
After some time he started studying acting at Kishore Namit Kapoor Academy and then worked part-time as an assistant director to Anurag Kashyap in Gangs of Wasseypur 2012. His first acting job was in Lal pencil after that he has kept on playing some roles in different films. He was also seen in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana and Bombay Velvet which was released in 2015
His Actual acting career started when he came out in the lead role in an independent drama Masaan released in 2015. His film Masan won two awards at the 2015 Cannes film festival.
